Technical Support

The information provided below may be of use.  If not,  technical support for CDs is usually provided by their manufacturer or publisher, with contact information found in the documentation accompanying a CD.  A list of support contacts for the more popular CDs may also be found below.  As the publishers are thoroughly familiar with their products, it is likely they can help you more expeditiously than we would be able to.

FAMILY TREE MAKER:
Family Tree Maker CDs require FAMILY ARCHIVE VIEWER or FAMILY TREE MAKER software to be installed in order to read them.  FAV may be downloaded free at
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/abtffiv.html.  Place the CD in your drive and then start one of the above programs.  If the CD does not start automatically, select VIEW and then FAMILY FINDER (SEARCH CD).

GENERAL SUGGESTIONS:

If you are running Windows XP, try enabling the program with START > PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > PROGRAM COMPATIBILITY WIZARD.
If you still experience difficulty with an Ancestry.com CD, uninstall it and reinstall the program selecting Windows 95 as your operating system.  Also select "Play on CD ROM."

If you have more than one CD/DVD drive on your system, try the CD in the other drive.  Some programs are hard-coded to work only on the first CD or DVD drive found on the IDE cable chain (the one with the lower drive letter, usually D:).

If the CD is in Adobe PDF format (has .pdf files), ADOBE ACROBAT READER must be installed in order to read it.  AAR may be downloaded free at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html.  Place the CD in your drive, start AAR, and select FILE and then OPEN.

CDs consisting solely of pictures (usually .jpg or .gif files) may require a graphics reader program such as Microsoft PICTURE IT or Adobe PHOTOSHOP.  A host of similar graphics programs are available (some very cheaply) at your local software store, or your computer may be configured with a default viewer that will start when you click on a .jpg or .gif file.  A graphics program may also be included on the picture CD.  You may also be able to view the picture files with your Web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.)

Terms of Use

AncestorStuff.com provides its services to you subject to the following terms which you accept if you utilize our Web site.

Although we make every effort to keep our listings current, many genealogical publications are issued in short run lots and frequently go in and out of print.  As some publishers do not regularly issue an out-of-print list, it is sometimes impossible to maintain our listings with 100% accuracy.  We do not guarantee the availability of any particular item.  Prompt refunds will be issued when an item is not available. Unless otherwise indicated, all items are new and are reprints of older original editions. Some items may be shipped directly to you from their distributor.
