British Army pensioners lived in the vicinity of every major center in the Canadian Atlantic Provinces, Quebec, and Ontario. In many cases their children and grandchildren emigrated to New England, New York, Michigan, and the American West. It is likely there are several million North Americans descended from these so-called "Chelsea pensioners." This book, which lists veterans who were discharged primarily during the period from 1800 to 1857, will help their descendants to trace their British origins.
The most important piece of information provided is the name of the unit in which a man was serving when he received his discharge. This is given for all 8,934 entries in the book together with the date the pension was awarded. Often additional details are supplied, such as the place of residence and the date and place of death.
