MECKLENBURG COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, WILL ABSTRACTS, 1791-1868 BOOKS A TO J, AND TAX LISTS 1797, 1798, 1799, 1806, AND 1807Herman W. and Ralph B. Ferguson This is really two books in one - the first part consists of 1305 abstracts of recorded wills as found in Will Books A-J and unrecorded wills of the same period filed with the North Carolina Archives in Raleigh. The second part consists of transcriptions of the tax lists for the five earliest years for which these records are extant. These two record groups supplement each other as the wills tend to reflect the affluent part of the population, but the tax collectors attempted to list every taxable person. An appendix is included that lists the names of persons who left wills up through 1790 and the page number of the book where these wills have been abstracted. It also contains six pen and ink renderings of historic Mecklenburg County homes including the Stone House of Hezekiah Alexander built in 1774. Book (1993), 1998, 8½x11, paper, indices, drawings, maps, xii+364 pp
