Complete (almost) 1790 Virginia Tax List Census
(Does not include any Kentucky counties)
This is a BETA RELEASE. It
is missing Berkeley and Hampshire Counties from West Virginia. When complete, an
upgraded disc including these two counties may be purchased for $5.00.
This data DVD contains digital
scans directly from microfilm or from photocopies of microfilm images. A
master index (85,752 entries) of all counties is provided with each name linking
to the original tax list image. The DVD includes 79 counties, 7
independent cities, and 181 tax lists. The most legible tax lists +/- a few
years of the census date have been selected for this reconstruction.
Depending on condition of the original lists, some entries may be faded,
bled-through, smeared, or otherwise hard to read or illegible. Some pages may be
damaged, duplicated or missing.
NOTE: None of these tax lists are included in the 1790 Virginia Census published by the Census Bureau in 1907 to replace the original 1790 census destroyed in the War of 1812. That publication included state enumerations and tax lists from 1782 to 1786 and only encompassed some 39 counties.
