|CHEROKEE RATION BOOKS 1836-1838 - New Echota [Georgia]|

This volume of the Cherokee Ration Books was found in a private collection of Cherokee materials. Due to the nature of the material, we decided to present this in a photocopied version of the material. To know the amount of bacon, beef, corn and salt given to each individual was not the important feature of this volume. Not all of the listings are the same since some of them will represent only a census of those Cherokee that were given their allotments, but in some of the listings, the families are grouped together and listed in the location of where they lived. This latter is the whole reason for this publication. Census are available in many other places, but the grouping of families is of utmost importance. The subtle difference in hand writing and spelling of names is our reason for keeping this in the original form. It will take time to go through this material, so do not be accused of just looking in the index. Our indexer might miss the spelling of the name.
