Year Book of the Holland Society of New York, 1906 - The Holland Society of New York. The Holland Society of New York was founded in 1885 with the expressed purpose of collecting, preserving, and disseminating information respecting the early history and settlement of the city and state of New York by the Dutch. As part of this mission they published a “Year Book” annually beginning in 1886 in which the information relating to the Dutch colonization that they had collected in their libraries was made available to the general public. The first 174 pages of the 1906 “Year Book” is a transcription of the marriage and baptism records from the Registers of the R.D. Church of Albany. The marriage records, 1725 to 1748, typically include the date of the marriage, previous marital status, and the names of the bride and groom. The names of the parents and the place of residence are sometimes included as well. The baptismal records begin in 1725 and end in 1749. They typically list the name of the child, parents and witnesses along with the date of the ceremony. The records are completely indexed, and there is a supplemental list of name variations provided as well. The contents of the rest of the book include: speeches from the society’s officers; lists of officers and trustees; the constitution and bylaws of the society; minutes from their third informal meeting; and a list of all current members including their places of residence. Of special value to genealogists are the thirty-two pages of obituaries of society members which typically give names of the parents and children of the deceased along with information regarding their occupations and achievements. (1908, 1995) 2010, 5½x8½, paper, index, 386 pp.
